"We had flown with Etihad from Johannesburg to New York, but I want to highlight our travel experience with them on the way back from New York to Abu Dhabi. My sister and I were quite early on JFK Airport in new York. We were tired and could not wait for the gates to open to check-in. We had all our bags still with us, so it was difficult to move around the airport, to enter the shops and restaurants. When the gates opened, we were number 4 and 5 to check in that day. It was quite nice to be first because within a few minutes, the lines were extremely long. With our bags gone, we had more freedom to move around and we decided to go past security to the waiting rooms. We walked around the duty free shops, waiting for the boarding call. When they call our numbers for boarding, our boarding passes were rejected. They had to issue new ones. While boarding I saw that our seat numbers had changed and the two of us weren't seated together anymore. I went back and confronted the ground personnel, saying that we checked in early so that we could sit together and now this. Then they truth hit me – they'd upgraded our tickets to business class. I was so embarrassed. When we got on the plane the service was first class. We had it arranged so that our seats were moved and we were together. We each received each a glass of champagne and then the fun started. For frequent flyers, only using economic or tourist class, everything was new to us. Pressing buttons, listening to music, watching our own televisions, lying on our own beds, it was a wonderful feeling. Dinner time was just as special: Getting your personal hostess, your food on plates and not in the plastic plates as in the economic section, a wide variety of choices, I can't explain the feeling. The breakfast the next morning was the same. It was a flight to remember. The hospitality, food, comfort, everything was so excellent. I think I can do with some upgrades in the future. Thanks Etihad for making this flight special. Now I know why you are voted best airlines in various categories."
