Fly Blue Crane announced yesterday that they are lauching flights from Johannesburg to Mthatha from the 1st of October 2016. The home of Nelson Mandela, formerly known as Umtata, is a main town in the Eastern Cape and home to one of three museums dedicated to the former president.
Fly Blue Crane will operate two daily flights between OR Tambo and Mthatha at a cost from R799* per way. As most of their other routes, this one will also be operated on an Embraer Regional Jet
145 (ERJ) that can carry 50 passengers.
Fly Blue Crane's inaugural flight took off on the 1st of September 2015 and in May this year they announced that they are interested in starting regional flights into Africa. They have gained rights to operate flights into Maputo, Mozambique and Manzini, Swaziland and plans to launch flights between Cape Town and Windhoek should be finalised soon. We expect more exciting announcements from them soon!
Flight bookings on this route haven't opened yet, but should soon.
